Dark Forest Items

For the last few months I have been hitting dark forests pretty hard, and I have been tracking what items are dropping and how fast they are dropping.  I have found that some items drop rather frequently while others are very rare.  Here are some of the more important items and their drop rate:  (All these number were with out Chance to Find Item equipped in the TR, I am running that test now)

Portal of Refuge:  .08% Drop rate = 1 Portal of Order for every 1,307 attacks on a Dark Forest
Animal Hide: .27% drop rate = 1 Animal Hide for every 369 attacks on a Dark Forest
Potion of Mist: .25% drop rate = 1 Potion of mist for every 399 attacks on a Dark Forest
Blood Lust: .03% drop rate = 1 Blood Lust for every 2,875 attack on a Dark Forest
Bark Skin: .03% drop rate = 1 Blood Lust for every 2,875 attack on a Dark Forest

Attacking Another Player

Kingdoms of Camelot is designed as a War Game.  The basic function of the game, above all else, is to battle other players.  As a player there are 2 types of battles, attacking and defending.  This page discusses Attacking Another Player.

Finding a Target

The Kingdoms of Camelot map is littered with castles owned by other players.  Some active, some not.  All player castles that are not in your alliance are available for attack (but your alliance may frown upon attacking some).

Attacking

  • Always scout the enemy before launching an attack.  It is vital to know what you are fighting against.
  • An enemy that has more than 100,000 siege troops can be difficult to attack unless the attack include a large amount of siege troops
  • Send troops that have an advantage over the troops in the defending city

Throne Room Considerations

When launching an attack on another player it is wise to not show the other player what Throne Room preset you will be using. The preset can be changed in the last few seconds before the attack hits its target. This technique is used to keep the enemy off balance. However, there are certain attacks that a skilled defender with a good TR will be able to defend no matter what TR preset is used, so it is important to know what the defender has for troops before launching an attack.

If the enemy has more than 100,000 siege in the city it could be difficult to attack them. Siege defending a city using an attack TR preset can defend a high defense TR attack, and siege with a high range TR can defend a high attack TR attack. The only sure bet for killing siege is to out range them.

If the city does not have siege in it, choose your attacking troops and launch them. A few seconds before the attack lands switch to the preset you believe will be most effective.

Throne Room – Attack Defense and Range

The 4 most important attributes in battle are Attack, Defense, Life and Range.

  • Attack – The amount of damage that a unit can deliver
  • Defense – The amount of damage a unit can sustain before the unit begins to feel the attack (think of defense like the armor a knight wears in battle)
  • Life – The amount of damage a unit can take before dying (after the armor has been broken)
  • Range – How close a unit needs to be to engage in battle

Attack – Counter to Defense

Attack is generally used as a counter to units with high defense.  The higher the attack the more damage a unit does.  Catapults and ballista are particularly effective against a high defense heavy cavalry attack.  While attack is capped at 800% it is still wise to build more than the cap as opposing players can use a debuff card to drop the attack level down.

Defense – Counter to Range

Defense is generally used for defending or attacking with Heavy Calvary.  A high defense Throne Room set up can make HC very difficult to kill, while not affecting their ability to kill opposing troops.   Archers do not have great attack (unless Ranged Attack or Attack is active in the TR) so an HC attack with high defense can walk through ranged attacks.

Life – Great compliment to Defense

Life is a great compliment to defense.  If a unit does not have enough attack to break through the defense, that unit only takes away 1 point of health.  A high level of life will cause the opposition to have to use many troops to get a single kill.  (Up to 10,000 troops per HC kill with high level life).

Range – Counter to Attack

Range is the minimum distance a unit needs to be before delivering damage to the foe.  Range and siege troops (archers, ballista and catapults) are able to attack enemy units from great distances and range increases the distance.  Units that do not use projectiles in battle can still benefit from range, but the effect is much less valuable than when used with projectile units.

What are Dark Forests

Dark Forests are found randomly throughout the Kingdoms of Camelot map.  The Dark Forests show up in place of bogs and remain until attacked.  Once a successful attack happens they disappear.

What Good are Dark Forests?

Dark Forests contain Aetherstone.  This Aetherstone can be used to upgrade Throne Room cards and to craft items in the Spire.  Dark Forests also provide a good amount of experience for any knight that attacks them.

What troops are in a Dark Forest?

Dark forests have troops that are unique to only dark forests.  The troops are:

  • Wander of Din – Level 1-10 Dark Forests
  • Blade of Netzekt – Level 2-10 Dark Forests
  • Arm of Gevrah – Level 3-10 Dark Forests
  • Priest of Yeshod  - Level 4-10 Dark Forests
  • Sahereen Hound - Level 5-10 Dark Forests
  • Ramez Banshee - Level 6-10 Dark Forests
  • Son of Ysbadden - Level 7-10 Dark Forests
  • Atzmus Rider - Level 8-10 Dark Forests
  • Sidhe Scorpion - Level 9-10 Dark Forests
  • Sidhe Templar - Level 10 Dark Forests
  • The Ink Knight - Level 10 Dark Forests

How do I attack a Dark Forest?

Flame Archers – A Paying Players Ace in the Hole

Since the inception of the throne room players that pay a fair amount of money have always had an advantage.  Over the past few months, that advantage has began to shrink.  That was, until the big money players figured out the value of Flame Archers.

Before the most recent Flame Archer craze a decent throne room played with skill could stand up to a very good throne room.  A smart switch to defense or attack at the right moment could lead to a large amount of glory.  Those days are gone for now.

When attacking, with their attack fully debuffed, Flame Archers still have more attack than any troop can possibly have defense.  And on defense, with even a sub-par throne room, millions of flame archers are next to impossible to defeat.

While it is possible to train Flame Archers, the numbers just are not there to do so in a significant way, best bet is to watch a ton of videos and when a box is available for cheap with a fair amount of flame archers, JUMP ON IT!

How to Use Jewels Added

Jewels are special additions to your Throne Room items to add a sixth effect to the item. Each Jewel is capable of assigning one specific effect to one Throne Room item after the Jewel has been set in the item. Jewels can only be set in items that have been Enhanced to the Miraculous quality or in Unique items. Broken Throne Room items cannot have Jewels set in them or Jewels removed until they have been repaired.

Where to get Jewels

Jewels can be found in Wilds, Dark Forests, Player vs Player combat, and from special events and boxes. Attack higher level areas on the map to have the greatest chance to find a Jewel. Different Jewels are found in different areas, so if you can’t find a specific Jewel, explore new areas to find different Jewels.

Jewels can be found alongside Throne Room and Champion Hall items, so it’s possible to find both a new piece of equipment and a Jewel from the same battle.

Jewel Stats and Quality

The effect a Jewel imparts on your Throne Room item is determined by what kind of Jewel you set in the item. Jewels come in several quality ratings that determine the strength of their stats, so more fragile Jewels will offer lesser bonuses. Your Throne Room item’s Might will also grow based on the quality of the Jewel set.

Effects from Cracked Jewels stop growing at level 6 and provide a Might boost of 5%

Effects from Flawed Jewels stop growing at level 9 and provide a Might boost of 10%

Effects from Cloudy Jewels stop growing at level 12 and provide a Might boost of 15%

Effects from Subdued Jewels stop growing at level 16 and provide a Might boost of 25%

Effects from Bright Jewels stop growing at level 17 and provide a Might boost of 33%

Setting Jewels

When selecting a Jewel to set, you can sort your inventory using the options on the left of the menu. Jewels can be filtered by their quality and by the type of stats they give. Once you have selected your Jewel, click the Set button to add that Jewel and its effect to your Throne Room item. Once a Jewel has been set into an item, the Jewel cannot be used again in another item.

Removing Jewels

If you decide to change the Jewel set in an item, select the item from your Inventory and return to the Jewel tab. The Set button will have changed to Remove, allowing you to take out the Jewel and its effect. Jewels are destroyed in the removal process, so they cannot be reused. Once a Jewel is removed, the sixth effect from the Throne Room item is also removed, your item’s Might returns to its pre-Jeweled level, and some Aetherstone can be returned to you. The Throne Room item retains its Miraculous quality after the Jewel has been removed.

Items with Jewels cannot be salvaged. To salvage an item, first remove the Jewel, and then use the Salvage or Mass Salvage menu options.

Throne Room Jewels – Patch Notes 5/1

The May flowers have unearthed brand new Jewels across Camelot! Using these Jewels and the brand new Miraculous class of Throne Room item Enhancing, you can turn any of your Throne Room gear into six stat items. Jewels allow all players to customize their items with a sixth line stat of their choosing, once the proper Jewels have been unearthed. Start sending your troops to high level Wilds, Dark Forests, and, of course, Player vs Player combat to discover these magical items. Jewels are automatically added your Throne Room inventory after battle, so visit the Jewel tab to see your items and view the in-game FAQ for all the specifics on this new feature or read the forum thread posted here.
 
You might also have noticed that there have been some UI changes to the Throne Room and Champion Hall to make the terminology and iconography consistent across the features.

Jewels – How to Use Them

Kingdoms of Camelot has recently added jewels to the throne room.  These jewels give the ability to add a sixth line to any throne room card.  Here is a step by step guide on how to use Jewels in the Throne Room

1. Enhance Throne Room Card to Miraculous

  • Use the same method ad used to get a card to wondrous
  • Unique cards do not need to be enhanced

2. Select the Miraculous card and click “Jewel”

  • Found right bellow “Upgrade”
  • Will open a window similar to the upgrade and enhance windows

3. Select the Jewel you want to add to the card

  • The list of available jewels will be found bellow the “Jewel” headline
  • The order of jewel value is as follows:
  1. Cracked
  2. Flawed
  3. Cloudy
  4. Subdued
  5. Bright

4. Click equip

5. Refresh

The Jewel is now equipped and will add the throne room stats will now reflect the added attributes!

To remove a jewel, simply select the card, select Jewel, then click remove.

ONCE A JEWEL IS REMOVED IT IS SALVAGED AND CAN NOT BE USED AGAIN!

Cloudy Jewels have become available, but so far they are only available in the store.  They have been part of a few boxes that have been for sale already and it looks like that trend will continue.  At least for a while!

Business as usual for Kingdoms of Camelot.

I have spent quite a bit of time tinkering in my throne room with Jewels now and I have come up with a few thoughts on what I have found with the freely available cracked and flawed jewels.

  1. Jewels give the attacker an advantage because debuff jewels are rare
  2. Resource Production Jewels in a training TR set are quite useful
  3. Cracked Jewels of all types are easy to find, so its smart to equip them until a flawed jewel of the same type is found
  4. Specific troop type jewels are less valuable than general jewels

Jewel Glitches

So, Jewels have been around for a while now and it is clear there are quite a few glitches.  Here are two that I have found to annoy me the most!

  1. Jewels do not work on defense
  2. Stats look different to owner than anybody else looking at their TR

1.  Jewels do not work on defense

After testing many times it seems the jewels are currently not working on defense.  The attacker gets the full bonus of the jewels while the defender gets nothing.  This is only leading to less people defending.  With ascension and now this glitch, it is getting rarer and rarer to find a defender.

2. Different Looking Stats

When a player looks at their own stats, they look different than when another player looks at them.  The owner of the TR sees significantly lower stats than another player sees when they look at the same throne room.  So far, in my domain, the reports seem to reflect what the owner sees, but who knows what the actual plan that kabam had was???

Cloudy Jewels have become available by either buying boxes in the Kingdoms of Camelot store or by winning them one way or another.  These jewels have had a big affect on the game.  Here is our review of the Cloudy Attack Jewel.

What does it do?

The Cloudy Attack Debuff Jewel can be equipped on any throne room card that has been enhanced to Miraculous.  When the Throne Room card is upgraded to +12 or (should be very easy to do with merc camps) they will add 244% attack debuff to that card.  (equal to attack debuff found on line 3), giving a throne room the possibility of adding 2,440% extra attack debuff if added to all 10 cards in a Throne Room.

Effectiveness

So far, the Cloudy attack debuff jewel (as seen equipped to the Miraculous Window Of Calm to the right) has been the jewel with the most effect on the game.  When using a defense / attack debuff throne room set on attack, these jewels add quite a bit to a throne room.

Opinion

We have seen a few throne rooms that have over 10,000 attack debuff on some domains, making their attacks nearly impossible to defend.  (And until the attack/defend jewel glitch is fixed, most will not even attempt to do so) So while we love its abilities to help a smaller player fight a much larger player, its tendency to make larger players unstoppable, even against other large players is yet another reason people are finding to quit the game.
